China Unlimited and Neighboring Countries

China borders 14 nations: Russia, Mongolia, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

In the north, dominated by the dry expanse of the Gobi Desert and forest steppes, China borders with Mongolia and Russia’s Siberia. In the northeast China borders North Korea.

China’s eastern seaboard has a 14,500 kilometers long coastline bounded on the southeast by the South China Sea and on the east by the East China Sea. Beyond the countries South Korea and Japan and the disputed country Taiwan are located.

Lush subtropical forests grow along China’s southern borders with Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar.

The terrain in the west is rugged and high altitude with the Himalayas and the Tian Shan mountain ranges forming China’s natural borders with India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and the Central Asian countries Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
